Theoretical
perspective
Functionalism
is a theory about what make something a mental state is
more a matter of what it does, not what it is made of. For example, a mousetrap
is made for killing mice, it could be made of many material, but at the end of
the day it is still use for catching and killing mouse. Another example for
functionalism is the body of a living thing like the human body, the body is
functional because all of the organs in the body play its part as what it is, a
foot is use to walk, it cannot be use to think like a brain and brain is use to
think therefore it is not capable of walking.
The society is like a big
body with many organs joined. Ever organ act as roles in the society. The
government role is to manage the society and to keep things organize, soldier
play a role in protecting the nation from harm, doctor help treats sick
patients. If one of these roles doesn’t act as what they were meant to do, it
would cause the society to not function well as it is supposed to, so in order
to get society running at its fineness everything needs to be functioning as
what it is meant to, thus we have to “play our part do our role functional is
our goal”

Memorable topics in class
Culture: We have learned a lot about
cultures in many countries. There are a lot of country in the world and in
every country has their own unique culture that is pass on through generations
reflecting their lifestyle, their landscape, climates in their area and more.
Even though culture define nation differently from one another, but there is
still some part of culture that is use internationally as well.
Critical
Thinking: In
every class we were taught to use critical thinking to understand the question
to get a produce a critical answer. Sometimes we only get one answer to a
question but if we use critical thinking we get even more. We can also make
question with critical thinking too. Overall, we use critical thinking to
understand more deeply in the topic that we are currently focusing on.
Feminism: In this class we get to
understand the meaning of equality and to respect each other, no matter what
gender we are. Learning that feminism isn’t only for women but for men and
every other gender as well. We all will apply what we have learnt in class to
our real life and will respect each other even more.
Inequalities
·
How do these inequalities affect your life in Thai society and/or
the world?
In Thai society there
is a thing call “sen sai” or supporter that will help you even though you are
doing the wrong thing, for example if you drive a car and you go speedy and
been pulled over by a cop, you can avoid being fine by calling out your
supporter name who has power, so that cop will let you go freely.
·
Have
you ever been discriminated against? Explain.
Yes, I have. people used to call me and my friends weirdos because
I don’t follow the trend or do thing that other teenagers do, I usually do
things that I want to do, and I think is my way. But when I grew up I learn to
embrace myself more and stop caring about the negative voices around me.
·
Have
you ever seen an act of injustice or discrimination? Explain.
Yes,
I have. There is a lot of injustice in Thailand. For example, the one that is
really disturbing me right now is the black panther case, that a guy name
Premchai shot the panther dead, but now roaming away freely.
·
How
did these experiences make you feel?
It usually makes me feel uncomfortable and angry. It doesn’t
affect me occasionally, but when I see the act in public I just feel defensive
and have to over think all the time that will someone be taking advantage of me
or not.
How can we change?
I think education is the most important part in developing the
society and molding it in to a good shape and form. Because the younger
generation is the one that is going to come up manage the society next and they
will be the one teaching the upcoming generation. So, I think we can start an
activity for every school, that the student will learn to help and respect each
other. For example, it can be a dress up role play activity that everyone
dressed up as a role in society and have to play as that role, we as
instructors will tell them information about what that role is and will guide
them to do interaction activity that is about helping and respect each
other.
